The countdown to the 2026 Winter Games is on! While the Opening Ceremony doesn’t kick off until February 6th, the best time to plan your themed instruction is right now. Integrating the spirit of the games is the perfect way to motivate your students to work on their math skills while stuck inside this winter. From “Solve the Room” scavenger hunts to fast-paced “I Have, Who Has?” games, I’ve put together a lineup of resources that will have your students going for the gold all month long.
Bring the Games to Life with These 3 Activities
I’ve designed these resources to be “low-prep, high-engagement,” so you can spend less time at the laminator and more time coaching your little athletes to success.
1. Winter Games “I Have, Who Has?” (3-Game Set)
This is a fast-paced, whole-class game that builds listening skills and mental math fluency. To make it work for every learner in your room, I’ve created three separate versions:
Addition Set: Perfect for mastering basic sums.
Subtraction Set: Great for focusing on differences.
Mixed Addition & Subtraction: The ultimate challenge for students to practice switching operations on the fly!
2. “Solve the Room” Olympic Edition
If your students are getting cabin fever from being stuck inside during the cold January weeks, this is the solution.
The Olympic Twist: Every question is Olympic-themed, so students might be calculating the distance of a ski jump or counting up medals while they solve. It turns a standard math lesson into a global scavenger hunt!
3. Winter Games “BUMP” (Addition & Subtraction)
BUMP is a classroom favorite because it feels like a board game but packs a serious punch for fact fluency. This set includes both Addition and Subtraction game boards to keep your math centers fresh. It also comes with a color & Black and White version for easy printing!
